Many people are trying to understand active development of China and success of its economy. There is a variety of opinions, stereotypes and explanations, explaining the nature of expert’s mentality rather than the essence of what is going on in this great country. Probably, I won’t avoid this, too. Is it possible, anyway? We perceive the world through ourselves, as there’re no other perception tools.
Due to decade of constant attention to this culture, attempts of understanding and sensing the essence of its power, I managed to grasp something, and this “something” is rather beneficial to me. I do not claim to have full understanding, and would like to single out two leading positions among all aspects: Ruler’s power and the power of Tradition. Together they make an entirety which is inherent in this ancient and wise culture to full extent. The couple mutually supplements and conditions each other ensuring integrity and efficiency of cultural and emblematic field, capable of selfreproduction.
Thus, peculiarities of mental settings of the whole nations are supported, including the Rulers themselves. The settings are conveyed in the course of many millennia genealogically. A bright example could be the fact that more than seventy generations of Confucius know its generic history. This is ensured by competent saturation of social space with symbols, signs and lighthouses, which confirm the correctness of these settings. And not directly (it happens, though), but in some indirect way. Besides, the Patterns are cultivated there from the first days of their life. Hieroglyphic writing is all about that. And the whole culture is oriented towards socialization, common life and work, and harmony with Others.
The issue of Administration in Chinese tradition, and, in the first place, public administration, took leading place in all centuries. They are really capable of ruling. Anyway, is there any other way to live in such a crowded country? However, care about people was always intrinsic to a good Ruler. And conscious administration, aimed at Future, connected with the present and the past by a continuous thread. Besides, this culture is very social. Individuality was suppressed, especially in the lowest social layers – however it has never prevented people from being unique. Nowhere can you find such delicate nuances and distinctive features as in Chinese painting, hieroglyphics and other arts, and all that in the framework of strict canons.
